ELTO went live from 1st April 2011. What does this mean?

HMRC is issuing an Employer Reference Number (ERN) to all companies where the employees are paid above the minimum PAYE threshold.

If Employers Liability is required for an insurance quotation, insurers will be asking for the ERN number. This will be compulsory from April 2012 though a number of insurance providers are starting to ask for this Now.

It is in your best interests to be prepared and ensure you ask your clients for the ERN number at the first instance to avoid delays thereafter.
